The Department of Defense is not responsible for, and does not sponsor any forum discussions, e-mail conversations between mentors and mentees, or the profiles individuals post to the Army Mentorship registration database. The forums are open forums meant to facilitate the exchange of information. Mentors and mentees act in their personal capacities and are not provided official oversight. All communications are subject to monitoring at any time; therefore, users will keep discussions professional at all times. Information in personal profiles is considered available to the public or anyone that has access to AKO, so users will use discretion when completing their profiles. Users are not authorized to discuss For Official Use Only (FOUO) or higher information in the forums or in separate e-mail communications outside of AKO. Inappropriate use of forums or the Mentorship Program registration database may result in the suspension of an individual’s AKO account. There is no assurance of confidentiality provided by the Department of Defense, and there is no expectation of privacy of the information provided by the mentor or mentee. The conduct and communications of mentors and mentees are subject to applicable laws and regulations, the violation of which may subject a mentor or mentee to adverse criminal and/or administrative actions. If a mentee has issues that exceed the capabilities of the mentor, such as having suicidal tendencies, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; or domestic violence, sexual assault, misconduct, legal, financial, or religious issues, the mentor will refer the individual to the appropriate authority (chaplain, medical provider, Family Advocacy Group, legal office, Army One Source, etc.).
