General MacArthur Leadership Award

Status:

  • NEW! On 19 May 11 GEN Dempsey, the Army Chief of Staff and Judge James S. Mathews from the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation, Norfolk, Virginia presented the CY10 MacArthur Leadership Award in the Pentagon Auditorium.

Objective:

  • To recognize company grade officers who demonstrate the ideals for which General MacArthur stood - duty, honor, country. The award promotes and sustains effective junior officer leadership in the Army.

Criteria:

  • Company grade officers (LT or CPT and WO1 or CW2) in the U.S. Army. CPTs and CW2s cannot be on a promotion list for MAJ/CW3, respectively, as of the end of the calendar year considered.
  • Meet height/weight standards IAW AR 600-9.
  • Pass APFT within the calendar year considered.

Award Distribution:

  • Active Army: 13 officers and 1 warrant officer
  • Army National Guard: 6 officers and 1 warrant officer
  • U.S. Army Reserve: 6 officers and 1 warrant officer

Award Details:

  • General Douglas MacArthur Leadership awards are presented to 25 officers and 3 warrant officers.
  • The Chief of Staff, Army, and a General Douglas MacArthur Foundation representative present the winners with an engraved 15-lb bronze bust of General MacArthur.
  • The bust, sculpted by Zenos Frudakis, Director, National Sculpture Society, is mounted on a walnut pedestal.
  • AUSA presents each winner an engraved, commemorative watch.
  • All winners receive a Commendation Memorandum from the Chief of Staff, Army.
