Rest and Recuperation (R&R)

Arrival, Departure, Early & Delayed Returns

Arrival:

Flights from theater arrive at one of two APODs: Atlanta (ATL) or Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW).

Baggage weight limitations are:

  • One 50-pound checked bag
  • One 15-pound carry-on bag

For security reasons, flight schedules are not published on this website. R&R travelers are encouraged to share their travel plans directly with family members, who can contact airlines to confirm arrival times.

Families are welcome to meet arriving flights at the APODs. Several agencies have special rates for R&R travelers (see below). You'll also find links for information on special recreational activities.

Departure:

R&R travelers must report back to their designated gateway on the date and at the time stamped on their leave form by the PAP when they arrived at the gateway. Military personnel must report in uniform. Remember - baggage weight limitations are the same as for the inbound flight:

Early Return:

Personnel who wish to return to theater EARLY MUST contact the Army Traveler's Assistance Center (ATAC) for authorization to return early and to arrange an earlier flight (1-800-582-5552). Those who return early without authorization will remain in a leave status and be required to pay for billeting and meals until the originally scheduled departure date.

The ATAC can assist in solving most common problems encountered by Army-sponsored travelers while in a travel status.

Hours of Operation - Monday - Friday between 0800 - 1600 Eastern Time.

In the event of an emergency requiring the immediate assistance of the ATAC duty NCO, the caller should listen closely and follow the instructions on the automated answering system.
