BRAC Changes Affecting RSOs in GA, SC, FL

How BRAC is Changing the Face of Retirement Services in Georgia, South Carolina & Florida

May 1st, the Retirement Services Office (RSO) at Ft McPherson, GA, closes after 55 years of service to retiring and Retired Soldiers, Families and Surviving Spouses. Four forts will realign their Retirement Services areas as a result of the closing so it will affect Retired Soldiers and Families in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

Before retirement, Soldiers and Families are served by the RSO at their installations. After retirement, many Retired Soldiers and Families may move far from an Army installation, but they continue to receive support from the RSO serving their area. Every Retired Soldier, Family Member and Surviving Spouse is supported by an RSO.

As the Ft McPherson RSO closes, Retired Soldiers and Families previously served by the Ft McPherson RSO will be supported by RSOs at Forts Benning and Gordon. Retired Soldiers and spouses in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida may see an RSO change as forts realign the areas they cover.

The Ft McPherson team has prepared Retired Soldiers and Families in their area for the RSO close through their newspaper The Sentinel, their final Retiree Appreciation Day in June 2010, and a town hall meeting introducing the "new" RSOs. Retired Soldiers and spouses whose RSO is shifting because of realignment will be able to make the transition gradually since they will be changing not losing an RSO.
